Foster Care Week

Foster Care Week is an annual event that has been running in NSW since 1990. Coordinated by the Association of Children’s Welfare Agencies (ACWA) with the support of non-government foster care agencies and other partners, Foster Care Week aims to both celebrate and acknowledge the work of NSW's foster carers and raise awareness of the need to attract more foster carers.

Activities during the week include the Sydney Foster Care Week Picnic Day for foster carers and their families, regional activities and social events for carers, and engagement with the general public via a range of media.

The success of Foster Care Week is primarily the result of the determination, co-operation and hard work of small groups of inter-agency representatives and foster carers who dedicate their time and energy to achieving the aims of the week. All those involved with the event have a strong commitment to maintaining and further reinforcing a positive image of foster care in the wider community.

Foster Care Week Events

Foster Care Week 2017 runs from 10-16 September, commencing with the Picnic Day in Sydney. Expressions of Interest for involvement in the Picnic Day committee are sought from agencies in March.

ACWA also provides a number of grants to encourage interagency events in regional communities that acknowledge, celebrate and raise awareness about the invaluable work of foster carers in our community. A letter about how to apply for a regional grant and a grant application form are made available in July.

Foster Care Week Picnic Day

This year the Sydney Picnic Day will be on Sunday 10th September at a convenient Western Sydney location.

Invitations have been circulated to agencies in the Sydney region. If your agency has not yet received the invitation, please email Liz Potten at liz@acwa.asn.au. If you are a foster carer who would like to attend the Sydney Picnic, please contact your agency directly for details.
