Gearing Up for Foster Care Week 2016

Wednesday, August 31, 2016

There are just 11 days to go until ACWA kicks off NSW’s 26th Foster Care Week celebrations with our annual Foster Carer Picnic Day on September 11.

Last year’s event (see our photo gallery) attracted around 1200 foster carers, children and volunteers and the stage is set for yet another wonderful day of family fun and entertainment, topped off with a fabulous barbecue lunch and prize giveaways.

Celebrations are going to be held in communities right across NSW during Foster Care Week to acknowledge the work of foster carers, as well as raise awareness in local communities of the need for more carers. The week will culminate on September 17 with the annual Kids in Care Cup, which will see 16 Aboriginal rugby league teams represent their region in a NSW state-wide knockout competition to help highlight a particularly high need in the community for Aboriginal carers.

The theme for this year’s Foster Care Week is ‘Be part of an amazing journey, foster a child’s future’ to link in with the Fostering NSW advertising campaign currently running on TV, radio and digital media across the state.
