There are a number of events throughout the calendar year that offer enhanced opportunities for the promotion of foster care to the general public.
The most important of these is Foster Care Week, which kicks off with the Sydney Foster Care Picnic each year on the second Sunday in September. Foster Care Week culminates with the Kids in Care Cup Aboriginal Footy Knockout, a great event that raises awareness about the need for Aboriginal carers.
Other relevant events include Youth Week in April, National Families Week in May, Naidoc Week in July and National Adoption Awareness Week in November. Fostering NSW endeavours to promote the need for foster carers around these events with tailored media stories, press releases and specially created social media posts. Agencies are encouraged to link their promotional activities to the Fostering NSW campaign activities and messaging at these times.
