Management and Leadership Responsibilities in Community Organisations

The Workbased Learning Unit at the University of Western Sydney, in partnership with the Association of Childrens Welfare Agencies (ACWA) has reported the first stage of its research conducted with managers of community organisations. The research documents the changing responsibilities of community organisation managers in response to microeconomic reform.

This report covers the first stage of the research - the identification of changes impacting on managerial and leadership responsibilities in third sector organisations in Australia in response to microeconomic reforms of the past decade; and the establishment of a sound database on the qualifications held by employees in community sector managerial and leadership positions and their relevance to changing managerial requirements in third sector organisations..

Findings are reported in the areas of manager profiles, manager activities profile and professional development. The discussion summarises the impact of microeconomic reform, manager qualifications and sectorial intervention strategies.
